Digital - Facebook-parent Meta officially launched its Twitter competitor, Threads, last Wednesday, after first confirming its plans for the app just three months ago. Threads is already off to a strong start: it received 100 million sign-ups in less than a week, the app shows, including a large number of brands, celebrities, journalists and many other prominent accounts. The mood on Threads on the night of its launch felt a bit like the first day of school, with early adopters rushing to try out the app and write their first posts — and some questioning whether the app could end up being the “Twitter killer.”... WIMBLEDON USES 5G HEADSETS TO IMPROVE CENTRE COURT EXPERIENCE FOR VISUALLY-IMPAIRED FANS

Tech - A pilot of 5G-powered headsets at this year’s Wimbledon Championships hopes to make the tournament more accessible by allowing visually-impaired tennis fans to experience extra action from anywhere in the stands. Vodafone, the tennis Grand Slam’s official connectivity partner, is deploying ‘GiveVision’ devices that stream live footage from local TV cameras over a 5G network and enhance the footage to suit a person’s specific sight profile. By bringing the stream closer to the individual’s eye, the photoreceptor cells in the retina (cells that respond to light) are stimulated, regaining a degree of sight. Users can adjust zoom, brightness and contrast to suit their needs. This means visually-impaired fans are more immersed in the action, enjoying the atmosphere of a stadium environment.. More HERE

 

MERCEDES REVEALS INVOLVEMENT IN BRAD PITT'S F1 MOVIE

Technology - Mercedes Formula 1 boss Toto Wolff has expanded on his team’s involvement in the development of the Brad Pitt movie and says it represents "a good narrative" and is “realistic.” Lewis Hamilton serves as executive producer for the as-yet-unnamed film, and the former world champion has played a big part in helping it come together and ensuring a level of authenticity in the script. A fictional 11th team called Apex has a strong presence in the paddock and has taken over a pit garage, complete with a “prat perch” on the pit wall opposite... More HERE
